Directed by Martin Bejerano, the Trio Ensemble at the Frost School of Music explores the piano trio format, including the many different approaches to a trio playing throughout jazz history, arranging and composing for a trio, and leading a trio (from each instrument’s perspective).
The class focuses largely on musical interaction, nuances of sound and color, traditional musical responsibilities/roles of each instrument, and how those roles can be switched, time and groove, and musical expressiveness.
