The Frost XJB Big Band is a freshman-level group, designed in part to prepare students for entry into the Frost Concert Jazz Band and/or other high-profile ensembles in the Studio Music & Jazz Department at the Frost School of Music.
The group focuses on fundamentals, doubling, and a broad examination of repertoire.
The Jazz Pedagogy master’s degree students co-direct the group. They focus on rehearsal techniques, programming, and concert production.
Each semester ends with a culmination concert, often with a guest vocalist.
